My dog sleeps on the couch and she isn't moving off. There are dirt stains where she sleeps. How can I make my couch look new again?
Hello Julie, Your first step is to check the tag on the couch to see if it has an "S" on it, if so, you cannot use water based cleaners on your couch. if not and you are good to go, then take a small towel and get it thoroughly wet, add a drop of liquid detergent to the towel and get it mixed in completely, then wring out dry. Go over the spots rubbing vigorously until they have been removed. then use a dry towel to wick up the moisture that is left. that should take care of the spots.
The other problem you are going to have, will be the odor from your pet. To remove this, sprinkle some baking soda over the area and let it stand for about ten minutes, then vacuum up the baking soda. Repeat if necessary.
Something else to consider is the cleaning of the whole couch. It can be done. Your first step is to see if your cushions are removable, if so then remove them and place them into your washing machine on a gentle cycle, then hang them to dry, do not put them into the dryer.
The remainder of the couch can be cleaned with a steamer. You can use whatever the manufacturer recommends, or try what other people have.Vinegar, or Oxy-Clean are just a couple, a 50/50 mix is great for this process.
Or you can always bring in a professional to do the work for you.
